For years now, boudoir sessions have been looked upon as a way to simply take sexy photos, and not have much forethought beyond what kind of outfits to wear. Our boudoir sessions take a different approach. By doing more planning in the beginning, we design a session that makes sense for you and your desires. Beyond the initial deep-dive of why this session, why now, and how I can best serve you are the questions that matter the most to me. For my clients, I give them a guide that walks them through how to maximize the best results out of their session. Today I’m sharing three of the ways that you can elevate your boudoir session as well!
Prep Your Body
It’s so important to prepare yourself mentally, physically, and emotionally for a boudoir session. I encourage my clients to center themselves the night before, making sure to clear out their brain of any limiting mindsets, and any stress that might be lingering in their life. A boudoir session is about liberation, and I want you to be in the best headspace possible. I also encourage you to treat yourself . Get a manicure (clean and polished nails are key here!), get your color retouched, drink LOTS of water to detox your system and have the clearest skin possible! Your boudoir session will be elevated by being kind to yourself and your body in the week leading up to your session. Remember, you deserve to have this time, these photos, and this experience!
Location, location, location
The location truly matters, and is one of the most asked questions from potential clients – “where can I do this session?!” I have an in-home studio space where I can create clean, classic boudoir photos. But if you have an idea for a new location, I’m always game for it! This could be outdoors – perhaps you own some private land or property, or even some tasteful photos on the beach. Have dreams of feeling like you’ve been transported to an airy morning in Europe? Consider renting a large hotel suite in the city for those dreamy portraits. Have a room in your house that gives you purpose? I’ll happily oblige (and even be COVID-safe as well!). The point is, don’t be afraid to try out new locations to make it fit within your vision!
Music has power
This tip is seriously underrated, but music truly does set the tone for your session. In our questionnaires, we ask our clients to get specific about their music tastes that make them feel like a true queen. This is actually a critical question. I need to know what makes you feel good, what makes you feel comfortable – music can transcend so many different emotions. If you are booking a boudoir session, make sure you take the time to come up with songs and musicians you resonate with, and share that with your boudoir photographer. Just trust me, you’ll be so glad you did when your favorite tune plays over the speakers when you’re feeling the most vulnerable!
These tips, while seemingly simple, have an intense way of leveling up your boudoir session! Seriously – at the end of the day, just have fun and enjoy celebrating yourself and your femininity, but use these tools as a way to ensure you walk away feeling on top of the world at the end of it all!
